Homebound Eucharistic Ministry
Homebound Ministers are responsible for bringing the Blessed Eucharist to homebound parishioners who are unable to attend Mass.
Schedules are published in 3-month blocks, and are posted on the parish web site
http://www.sspeterandpaulmazeppa.org/ as well as in the Bulletin.
The secretary also distributes a list of the homebound communion ministers and their contact information. Once the schedule is published, please take it upon yourself to find a substitute/ switch schedules if necessary.
The names of those requesting communion is posted in the sacristy weekly. Before or after Mass, visit the sacristy to identify those individuals. Use the key in the locked cabinet to open the tabernacle. Remove the required number of consecrated hosts. Place them in the special container called a “Pyx.”
When you call upon the parishioner to distribute communion, begin by saying the Our Father together. Then the Invitation to Communion prayer:
Minister: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
All: Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
After communion, simply visit with the parishioner for 15-30 minutes, depending on the amount of time that you have available. You may complete your visit before or after Mass or even on a different day if your schedule does not work for the Sunday you are scheduled. Simply call the individual and let them know when you will be attending.
The homebound parishioners are very happy to receive communion at home, and also to have the socialization of your visit. Thank you for participating in this very important ministry
