Funeral Eucharistic Mass Procedure

Funeral for person Cremated:
There is a table in the Reconciliation Room just for use for the Cremated Urn to sit on with Table runner inside the drawer.
Questions:
- Lights, Fans, Sound System, Thermostat
- Lights: Turn on in the Nave, Narthex, and Sanctuary. Report dead bulbs to office.
- Ceiling Fans: Leave fans on 24/7 in winter. Speed set to the 3:00 mark on dial.
- Sound System: Turn on the main power switch for the sound system (metal switch box with red light). This activates both the podium and wireless microphones.
- Wood Ambry
- Turn on lights to display oils with remote. One click lights both. Notify office of dead bulbs.
- Ambo (pulpit for lectors)
- Place Funeral Book (Lectionary IV) on countertop for priest to mark readings selected by family.
- Place on Ambo. Microphone on.
- Holy Water, Incense
- Place 2 inches of holy water (from narthex) in holy water bucket, with brush aspergillum on top.
- Place one charcoal in the incense burner (censor), hang on stand with incense boat on top.
- Servers
- If no servers, ask funeral director or find volunteers; OK adult servers.
- If no servers available, see credence table below
- Have servers light altar candles (2) and Paschal Candle (1) ten minutes before service.
- Casket Funeral Pall (Mortcloth or cloth casket cover) located in the 4th drawer.
- Give to Funeral Director.
- Altar and Tabernacle
- Place tabernacle key in the tabernacle lock (in 2nd cabinet from left above countertop).
- Check the number of consecrated hosts in the ciborium.
- Liturgy starts with a bare altar; servers set up the altar at the Offertory.
- Hosts and Wine for Offertory Gift Table
- Place 1 sleeve (100 hosts) in the second ciborium with 1 large host on the top.
- Non-consecrated hosts stored in second overhead cabinet above countertop.
- Place wine in one of the cruets from drying rack. Wine bottle under cabinet.
- Fill with wine to top mark and cover with glass top
- Place the open ciborium and wine cruet on the offertory gift table in center aisle
- Credence Table
- Place chalice on the credence table, covered with chalice pall, corporal, and purificator.
- Place Lavabo (finger bowl), water cruet, and finger towel on the table.
- Place 2 silver metal cups and 2 purificators on the table.
- If no servers, place everything on altar except wine and hosts on offertory table
- Portable Microphone
- Ensure the batteries are fresh – we change monthly and record change in the book.
- If visiting priest, show how to turn on (red button) and mute/un-mute (white button
- Charcoal
- Light charcoal after homily, unless family giving eulogy.
- Light charcoal during Our Father if family delivering eulogy.
- Funeral Toll (bells)
- When the family is processioning out Press the Funeral Toll button, then OK to start the bells ringing the Funeral Toll.
- Let the Priest and Funeral Director know you will activate the bells.
After Mass:
- Wash chalice, cups, ciborium, cruets, and ciborium in Sacrarium.
Note that the sink is a sacrarium specifically for this purpose. - Lock tabernacle key, chalice, ciborium, and cups in the same cabinet.
- Cabinet key in right cupboard with microphones
- Place used purificators and finger towels in container in corner near the sink.
- Ensure all candles have been extinguished except red sanctuary candle.
- Turn out lights once church empty (may wish to wait until after lunch)
- Turn off the main power switch for the sound system (while metal switch box with red light) and make sure the switch is turned off by piano.
- Lock sacristy and make sure all doors are locked with your Key and Wooden Handled Key.
